Because she’s the more relatable of the two princesses. She’s reclusive, reserved, intelligent, calm, kind, bold, stays up late into the night, isn’t an early morning type and is out of touch with modern society. Many gamers have these tendencies and just decided to portray her as such as well.

Making her a gamer was just the rational thing to do because Celestia is obviously to busy eating cake or kissing babies to play games whereas we don’t know what Luna does off the job. It could very well be playing Ogres and Oubliettes with her royal guard or sewing sock puppets, not just gaming. With how crazy the fans are for gamer Luna, however, it’s gonna stick no matter what the writers do.
